3D this...3D that...

3D technology is coming back big, 3D IMAX movies, ultra slim 3D HDTVs that can play 3D sports broadcasts, designer 3D glasses so you can see those movies and sports in style, 3D handheld gaming systems that don't require glasses, cell phones that can display as well as record 3D movies in 720p that can then be displayed to your fancy 3D HDTV.  Really guys?  I don't need everything popping up at me.  Now the occasional movie? Ok.  Avatar was actually a really good 3D experience.  But for every Avatar you get a My Bloody Valentine 3D.  Do I really need my portable gaming system to have 3D? Not to mention you have you hold it so close to your face your arms might get tired before the battery dies (2-4 hours reportedly).  Do I need a TV that requires me to wear glasses to watch a football game? I enjoyed the Super Bowl on a regular 2D TV just fine, thanks(GO PACK GO!).  And now cell phones that display their content 3D.  And if that recording of the goofy guy at the store isn't good enough in plain old two dimensions, then these new phones can record it in 3D for you to play it to your friends.  I don't need 3D on every gadget in my life tech industry.  The same goes to you, movie industry. What do you guys think about the 3D revolution? Leave me a comment below, I read them all.

  1. I'm not sure if 3D is going to be a fad yet, but TV's that force you to wear glasses to watch in 3D is. I kinda feel bad for those who jumped on the bandwagon already but I guess it's their own fault

  4. I really don't like 3D too much...I think it makes watching the movie hard.

  5. I like it quite much, this opens the doors to what we can do with movies and games. It will be interesting to see what we can do with it in the future :)

  6. 2D is fine to me, dont want to wear stupid glasses just to watch some television. Although 3D porn would be fun I guess.

  10. @PossessedWarrior Exactly. I don't know what he said exactly, but James Cameron said that they spent 8 years doing production for Avatar's 3D, and producers think they can do it in post production in 8 weeks.

  12. It's a fad. It'll slowly fade away.

The technology exists since the 80s, where it also tried to be the next big thing and failed.
